Wow. It's actually been 6 months since the previous update. Good news though, those 6 months weren't spent idling!! I've gotten a much clearer vision for what I want AELYVENTURES (name pending) to be. I'm still kind of winging it when it comes to plot points and the story is still vague in my head for the later parts, but I've gotten a scrappy GDD and some worldbuilding + plot elements down.

The main thing being, the vision is much clearer from 6 months ago! Right now I've gotten the base design down for the first area and I'm finishing up the first dungeon as well. Major thanks to all the free resources and plugins available online. I'm trying to get as much original art as possible, but having a 32x32 giant spritesheet to start with helps a TON when working solo. (Pipoya, you're the GOAT)

The majority of what I've gotten done is the Raat Burrows, a labyrinth of tunnels that have infested the Guild's basements. Figured out a bunch of stuff like creating a "lighting system", short cutscenes and messing with Action Sequences. It's been really productive!

Also I've pretty much gotten most of the dungeon's boss' mechanics in... here's a sneak peak of him:

Freaky deakkyyyyy. After I'm done with this dungeon, I can finally work on introducing the second playable character - a certain righteous Paladin (whose name I still can't decide on)

That's it for now! I'll probably get a build for some close friends to play with once the Raat Burrows are complete. A long way to go but it's good progress!

To be honest! I'm at a lost as to what I want this game to be.

I wanted it to be a long project I worked on as I went through uni, but I know for a fact I'm going to lose interest and stop working on it. I also thought I would get an idea of the plot while I worked on some basic systems but it never came to me!

So right now I'm just reassessing the scope and what I actually want the game to be. Anyway, I do have some screenshots at least!

Funnily enough, I've spent more time on this than my first RPGmaker game (which you can find if you dig around the site a little) with much less to show for it!. A lot of time was spent figuring out the systems of RPGmaker and downloading plugins. It felt like the more I dug into wanting specific systems, the more limited the engine by itself was.

I focused on drawing Aely's sprites and implementing a skill set that a Dark Knight would have in a turn-based RPG. The idea of Aely 's playstyle is that she gets stronger at low HP, and has various debuffs she can put on the enemy like Blind. Also figured out how to give her an INSTALL SUPERRRRR GRAAAAAAAH. im quite proud of that.

The rest of my time was spent finangling with the systems and getting text and UI to look good. (A lot of plugins had to be discovered. Thank you RPGmaker community.) A standout to me is SRD's Hudmaker Ultra plugin!!

I have another character in the works, but I'm going to do the whole reassessment thing before continuing with her. That's all for now!! Hopefully this isn't still the newest devlog in 6 months l o l.
